Descriptive terms to describe the various metals used often refer to the color of the wire and not necessarily the content of the wire. Reference to gold, silver, etc., refer to the color of the wire and accents. All products that include precious metals will specifically indicate that (e.g., Sterling Silver, 925 silver, Argentium, 14K gold, etc.).

Metals such as copper and brass are known for their warm tones and availability at affordable prices. Much of my work is crafted in these two metals. Like Sterling silver, they will tarnish or oxidize, but also like Sterling, can be brought back up using a polishing cloth.

Stainless/Surgical steel is hypoallergenic and featured prominently in the collection, particularly in earrings, where many customers have sensitivities to alloys. Stainless is more rigid, which helps hold its shape in wire wrapping designs and on ear wires. The Studio’s site includes filters for earrings by metal type, so customers can easily find designs featuring this and other metal types.

“German-style” or craft wire is generally made of a durable copper or brass base plated with materials like silver, gold, or other colorful finishes. It is heavily treated with a tarnish-resistant coating so it holds its polished look over time. It is also available in a variety of color coatings for a trendy look.

There are, and will be more, blog posts about pearls. My studio includes everything from cultured freshwater pearls in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, to more upscale and sophisticated types of pearls from the cultured saltwater varieties available, including Japanese Akoya, South Sea, and Tahitian, which itself includes traditional Tahitian pearls, along with Cook Island pearls, Cortez pearls, and more. Some are more readily available and thus shown in the current collections. Others are more elusive and available through a custom commission work. I use a large variety of manufactured crystal beads in my work, ranging from high-end Swarovski and Preciosa crystal to more affordable K9 crystal. Below is a brief description of these magnificent beads.

  • Swarovski Crystals: Historically the gold standard for high-end jewelry, Swarovski crystals are premium Austrian-made leaded glass, renowned for their flawless, machine-cut facets and intense brilliance. Note: Swarovski stopped selling their loose beads to the retail DIY/hobby market. Remaining stock is highly collectible, driving the market to premium alternatives. Inspired Chaos Studio is authorized under its Brand Control Program to buy and sell its products.
  • Austrian Crystals: Since the shift in the Swarovski retail market, Austrian crystals (often branded as Prestige or Serinity) have taken over as the premier alternative. They are manufactured in Austria using the same precision machine-cutting and polishing, delivering nearly identical quality and brilliance to that of Swarovski.
  • Czech Crystals: Originating from the Czech Republic (with brands like Preciosa leading the industry), these crystals are deeply rooted in centuries-old glassmaking traditions. They are highly revered for their beautiful colors, intricate molded shapes, and unique styles like “fire-polished” beads. They are more affordable than Austrian-cut crystals while retaining excellent quality.
  • K9 Crystal: K9 is a highly durable, man-made optical borosilicate crown glass. While it is widely used for large decorative items like prisms, chandeliers, and high-end figurines, its superior clarity makes it an excellent, tough choice for larger statement jewelry beads or pendants
